Abstract

The imbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer typically uses two multimode interferences individually connected with different path length for interferometric applications. When the optical loss difference between two phase arms is significant, the new splitting scheme using Mach-Zehnder based directional coupler could compensate loss discrepancy for higher extinction ratio and wavelength independence.
