Abstract

This paper presents the study on the characteristics of root stresses of straight-toothed conical involute gears by means of experiment and finite element methods. The experimental analysis and numerical analysis of root stress will be presented in this paper considering (1) a single load acting on a tooth; (2) multiple loads due to tooth contact of a conical gear pair with parallel axis. The research results give more information on the characteristics of the straight-toothed conical gears. Finally a basic equation is advised for calculating bending strength of conical gears based on ISO method.
