Abstract

A new EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) model was proposed for the MEA (membrane electrode assembly) of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). This model correlated the MEA structure and its EIS data at various testing conditions. This model contains resistant (Rs), Rif C if circuit, Rrxn Crxn circuit, and R CO LCO circuit. The R was due to the membrane resistance. The Rif Cif was related to the interfacial properties between electrode and membrane. The Rrxn Crxn was the impedance due to methanol oxidation and oxygen reduction. The RCO LCO pair was corresponding to the CO adsorption in methanol oxidation reaction. Details of this work will be submitted for publication. copyright The Electrochemical Society.
