Abstract

Different classes of Ru catalysts supported on SiO//2, Al//2O//3, TiO//2, graphite, and NaY have been used to investigate the effect of the support on K promotion in CO hydrogenation. It was examined at a temperature from 250 to 350 degree C, a pressure of 1 atm, a CO/H//2 ratio of 1, and a space velocity GHSV of 1,800 hr** minus **1. In each case, the addition of K significantly enhanced the fraction of olefin products (C//2-C//4) for the impregnated Ru catalysts. The olefin fraction of the C//2-C//4 hydrocarbons produced becomes a weak function of the reaction temperature. On the other hand, the rate of synthesis is decreased by this addition. Tremendous variations in selectivities were found depending on the support used.
