Abstract

We have studied the effect of internal friction coefficient of particles on the transport properties of sheared granular flows. Experiments were performed in shear cell device using four kinds of beads with different internal friction coefficients and using five different solid fractions. The motions of the granular materials were recorded by a high-speed camera. By employing image processing technology and particle tracking method, we measured and analyzed the distributions of the average velocities, velocity fluctuations and particle self-diffusion coefficients. Three bi-directional stress gages were used to measure the normal and shear stresses along upper boundary.
