Abstract
In this study, we demonstrate the importance of accounting for energy conservation in heat transfer studies of float-zone growth. The physical problem analyzed by Kobayashi has been reconsidered. The results show that an analysis that does not consider energy conservation may lead to incorrect results. The power required to form a melting zone for the materials LiNbO3 and Al2O3 is computed. The present results are compared with the previous experimental results.
