Abstract

This paper proposes a methodology for design and high-level synthesis of hybrid controller that combines discrete event system (DES) and continuous time system (CTS). This methodology includes hierarchical system analysis, discrete-event modeling, DES/CTS interfacing, VHDL-target hardware synthesis and FPGA hardware implementation. We took a drilling machine as an demonstrative application to apply the proposed methodology. The results reveal the ability for rapid prototyping of high performance intelligent control system.
