This presentation aims to introduce modern design of a special type gearing, so-called "Toroid Gearing", for possibility of variable shaft angle while in power or motion transmission. Three types of "Toroid Gearing" are discussed here: toroid gear, spherical gear and barrel gear. The main topic for the design of the gears mentioned above will be systematically discussed: (1) the kinematical geometry and (2) the design of gear pair with intersecting shaft. From the result of study only the hobbed toroid gear pair with gear ratio equal to one can be used in the practical application. However the module of the toroid gear generated by a rack-type cutter is variable. In order to solve the manufacturing problem, this presentation advises a new method. Two types of mechanisms for adjusting the gear shaft position are also given for the practical design of the gear pair. Also the presentation reports the replacement model of the toroid gear for analysis and calculation. Finally three different types of "Toroid Gearing"' are compared.
