Abstract

We previously presented reduced dimension blind space-time RAKE receivers for classical DS-CDMA that cancel strong multi-user access interference while optimally combining the desired user's multipath. In this paper, we show through theoretical analysis and supporting simulations that if the space and time compressing transformations are designed judiciously, reduced dimension 2D RAKE receivers offer faster convergence with respect to output SINR as a function of the number of symbols received than that achieved with a full dimension space-time RAKE receiver, at the expense of only a slight loss in asymptotic SINR. Applications to the IS-95 uplink are presented along with supporting simulations. In addition, simulations involving a mobile moving 75 mph are presented demonstrating the tracking capabilities of the reduced dimension 2D RAKE receiver.
