Abstract

The CDMA system is potential to provide more capacity than the other systems and the hierarchical layer of cells will be popular in the future. However, the problem is whether the same RF channels used in CDMA overlayed/underlayed macrocell and microcell structure also obtains high capacity as in the homogeneous structure. This paper will investigate the interference of uplink and downlink of microcell and macrocell under hierarchical condition. The pilot signal and power control for downlink are also considered. We use analytical and simulation method to investigate the problem. However the results are discouraging. The capacity of the microcell and macrocell are limited by downlink and uplink respectively.
