Calibration setup for drift chamber gases

We describe an experimental setup allowing precise and simultaneous measurement of the drift velocity and the deflection angle in a magnetic field. Calibration data are presented for argon:methane and argon:ethane to 1.0% absolute accuracy. A systematic study of many gases for detector requirements at future colliders will be carried out based on these techniques.
