Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new ATM-based network which is equipped with non-IN ATM switches and CDMA systems instead of the combination of IN-featured ISDN switches and cellular systems to provide the mobile communications. This architecture has some merits. The first advantage is without any modification for an ATM switch and the control of handoff function is easily obtained. The second advantage is that the voice detection function inherent in a CDMA system is easily adopted by this ATM architecture. In addition, the signal flow for registration, call origination (to a handset or a fixed telephone), and call termination (from a fixed telephone or a handset) are also described.
