Abstract

(Figure Presented) An unusual mix: The first mixed-valence uranium(V,VI) germanates are synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. The structure of A3(U2O4)(Ge2O7) (A = Rb, Cs) contains chains of corner-sharing U5+O6 octahedra (purple) and U6+O6 tetragonal bipyramids (yellow), which are interconnected by GeO4 tetrahedra (green) to form a 3D framework (see picture; A blue).
