Abstract

This paper studies the aerosol properties over major East Asian cities of Beijng, Seoul, Osaka, Taipei, Mukdahan, and Bac-Gaing, during the years 2002-2008 using moderate imaging spectroradiaometer (MODIS) onboard Aqua and Terra satellites and ground measurements using aerosol robotic network (AERONET). Daily, montly, and annual aerosol optical thickness (AOT) values from both the measurements over these locations are described. Angstrom Exponent (AE) product from MODIS is used to understand the size information of the aerosol particles at different geo-graphical locations and in different seasons. The observed distribution have been compared with local meteorological parameters derived using NCEP-NCAR reanalysis data.
