Abstract
BECAUSE NEW MATERIALS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED CONTINUOUSLY FOR HIGHER STRENGTH, AND TECHNIQUES FOR STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN HAVE BEEN CONSTANTLY IMPROVED, THERE EXISTS A TENDENCY TO BUILD MORE FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES IN THE FUTURE.THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION IS TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF ACTIVE CONTROL ON THE RESPONSE OF FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES TO DYNAMIC LOADS.THE PROBLEM OF STRUCTURAL CONTROL IS FO%MULATED.SOLUTIONS ARE OBTAINED FOR CERTAIN CASES OF DETERMINISTIC AS WELL AS RANDOM LOADS.AS EXAMPLES, THE RESPONSE CONTROL OF ONE- AND TWO-STORY BUILDING STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO WIND LOADS AND EARTHQUAKE EXCITATIONS ARE CONSIDERED.%A<
