Abstract

Many researchers are interested in finger vein identification since it is hidden beneath the skin, so it is considered more secure than other biometric features like the face, retina, fingerprint. Furthermore, finger vein collection is more easier and more hygienic than other features. There are some approaches for finger vein recognition, such as using image processing approach that focus on the hand-craft features, or deep learning approach. The deep learning approach has been demonstrated to be more beneficial than the image processing approach, especially in images with poor quality, low contract, or variations in position, rotation, or scale. This survey not only summarizes recent advances in finger vein detection but also compares several contemporary methodologies.
