Abstract

A substrate feeding strategy using an oxystat was first successfully applied to a fed-batch phenylalanine fermentation. The control method allowed the fermentation to be under low dissolved oxygen tension, which was favourable phenylalanine formation, and to be from substrate inhibition during the course of fed-batch operation. The final product concentration was 3 times higher than in a batch culture.
