Abstract

A multicarrier communication system utilizing an optimum transmultiplexer (TMUX) receiver is studied, which is derived by the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) criterion. In order to obtain fast convergence rate and moderate computational complexity in the adaptive signal reconstruction algorithm, a fast recursive least squares (FRLS) algorithm is developed. By the polyphase decomposition method, the adaptive TMUX receiver is formulated as a multichannel filtering problem such that the Wiener solution and the FRLS algorithm are obtained by the block Toeplitz matrix structure of the analysis bank. The adaptive TMUX receiver generally requires higher computational complexity as compared to the conventional OFDM system, but it performs better when interference noises exist because of the low sidelobe in nature. From simulation results, we show that the performance of the filterbank-based system is superior to that of conventional OFDM systems in the multipath channel with narrowband interference noises.
