Abstract

Predicting occurrence of earthquakes is very difficult today. Instead of, the contemporary Earthquake Early Warning System (EEWS) only relies on the earthquake detection technology. Deploying more stations to sense seismic wave could obtain higher accuracy of earthquake detection but requiring longer detection latency. This paper proposes a low complexity algorithm for fast detecting earthquake events from a continuously series of sensed acceleration information. Simulation results show that about 90% and 93.5% real earthquake samples could be detected within 1s and 2s respectively.
