Abstract

In this paper, a fast approach is proposed to detect and correct the skew documents. In this proposed approach, a coarse skew angle /spl theta//sub e/ is first estimated to decrease the heavily computational burden. Next, the exact skew angle /spl theta/ located in the previously estimated range [/spl theta//sub e/-3, /spl theta//sub e/+3] is then determined by making use of the Hough transform method. In addition to the skew angle detection. The skew image is quickly corrected by decomposing the traditional geometric rotation into a translation and a local rotation process. A mapping table which stores the local rotation information is employed to avoid the large floating-point operations and speed up the rotation process on general-purpose computers. Experimental results are conducted to verify the feasibility and efficiency of our proposed method.
