Abstract
A series of lateral model pile test was conducted in this study to find out the behavior of pile foundation for offshore wind turbine under lateral loading. The test specimens including dry sand specimens and saturated specimens were prepared by Zhunan sand, which was the coast sand of western Taiwan. After doing the lateral loading tests, the moments along the model pile measured during test were used to develop the p-y curves by regression analysis and the elastic beam theory. Comparing the p-y curves with Reese model and API model, the strength of the p-y curves were underestimated by Reese model and API model when the depth was less than 3 times the diameter of the model pile. The initial stiffness of the p-y curves were overestimated by the two models for all depths. The non-linear relation of Reese model was similar to the p-y curve of the test results. Different from the Reese model, the non-linear relation of API model was similar to elastic-perfectly plastic model, and the initial stiffness was overestimated.
