Abstract

Coefficient of vertical subgrade reaction kv is a key parameter in solving soilstructure interaction problem. The selection of kv depends on many factors including foundation size, ground property and its distribution, deformation level, embedded depth as well as loading and reloading paths. It is not possible to consider all these factors by using simple elastic solutions or empirical equations. This paper proves the three dimensional numerical analysis can reasonably take the influences of the above factors on kv into account. Based the analysis results, the distribution of Young's modulus of soil has a great influence on the foundation size effect of kv. Thus, the numerical method is suggested while solving the cases of the complicated ground profile and the large size of foundation.
