The Preliminary Study of the Volumetric Property and Moisture Sensitive of Recycled Asphalt Concrete with Rap Contains Bof Slag

Project Details

Description

The Taiwan government enforce the pavement surface layer should adopt BOF slag to replace the coarse aggregate in asphalt concrete for reduce the waste. It is expected the asphalt concrete pavement should face the maintenance and rehabilitation after couple years, the RAP would contain some BOF slag, and how to control the quality of recycled asphalt concrete would be an important issue for pavement engineering. If the rap contains some BOF slag couldn't be used in into recycled asphalt concrete or the other application, the BOF slag recycle policy of Taiwan government would be totally lose the original meanings. The objective of this study is evaluate the volumetric property and moisture sensitivity of asphalt concrete with rap contain BOF slag. In the first year of this project, the Marshall and Superpave mixture would be used to design the asphalt mixture with rap contain BOF slag, the volumetric included Void Mineral Aggregate and film thickness would be discussed and the impact of using rap contain BOF slag to Taiwan current asphalt mixture design would also be further study. The lab. performance would be conducted after mixture design. Based on lab. mixture design, volumetric and performance test, the recommendation mixture design and quality control process of asphalt mixture with rap contain BOF slag would be made by this study. The second year of this study is focused on the moisture sensitivity and anti-rutting capacity of asphalt mixture with rap contain BOF slag, the main evaluate the relationship between moisture sensitivity and asphalt mixture parameter included film thickness, air voids and gradation. In addition, the remain service life of asphalt concrete with rap contain BOF slag would be predicted via the relationship between SGC gyration No., ESALs, and Rutting. Based the two years results, the recommendation procedure of mixture design, quality control for asphalt concrete with rap contains BOF slag would be purposed by this study.
