Description
The imperial gardens of Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties inherited the legacy of Qin andHan imperial gardens. On one hand, they cherished the splendor of former times and on the otherhand indulged the enjoyment of existing world. Confrontation between the north and the southconsequently followed by a southward shift on economic and cultural center, but deficiency ofpolitical superiority did not hold back economic and geologic development of imperial gardens.Sustainable development of imperial gardens enhanced symbolic political significance, whiledelight of feast and amusement emerged an expansion of new path for imperial gardens aesthetically.The literati gardens brought into a profound impact to imperial gardens on cultural consciousnessand aesthetic style, spiritual transformation of imperial gardens inspired the trend of scholarlyroyalties. Entertaining banquet for royalties and literati has been common with the intersectionbetween imperial garden culture and literati culture, thus accelerated the creation of associatedliterature. During this period, pursuit of aestheticism and desire of secular customs intersected undera development of literature consciousness. The imperial garden literary creation, aside fromglorification with extravagant expression, revealed novelty of appeal to both refined and popularappreciation.
