Study on Hybrid Diffuse Optical Imaging Technique and System Integration(2/2)

Project Details

Description

Multi-wavelength near infrared diffuse optical imaging (NIR DOI), belonging to functional imaging, enables to distinguish tumor tissue from normal one, as well as characterize oxygen content distribution. Since middle 90s it has been applied in tumor screening and diagnosis for soft tissue such as breast, and performed for clinical trial besides continual technical improvement. Based upon the previous twelve-years study in the DOI, especially the current two-year project “Study on the Design and Validation for Three-Dimensional Prostrate Optical Imaging System” granted by the MOST that has been performed for improving the prone-type imaging system including (i) the design and implementation of flexible optical channels to fit the test subject/phantom, and (ii) to realize periodic power (like square-wave) driving light source. This two-year project aims to enhance the DOI system in the following three issues:(1) to investigate a model-based and data-driven hybrid computation algorithm;(2) to develop a unique DOI image reconstruction software, like NIRFAST and Toast++;(3) to further polish the prone-type DOI system through implementing self-designed analogue power converted from digital periodic signals to drive light source, and using line light source to reconstruct CAD model of subject to be test. This project will continue to perform human subject experiments for breast tumor detection, and collect clinical data. Subsequently, we can examine the sensitivity and specificity for the developed DOI system.
