Project Details

Description

This research studies the separation and concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2) from gas stream of carbonaceous reaction plant by pressure swing adsorption process. High concentration CO can be used as raw material of organic acids production, alcohol production, etc, and high concentration H2 can be used as energy source.First, this study is going to search isotherm data of CO and H2 from literature survey. Regressing the isotherm data can obtain the parameters of isotherm equation. Then we build the simulation program and verify the simulation program by comparison with the data from literature. If necessary, we will perform the experiment for isotherm measurement. After choosing the gas stream of carbonaceous reaction plant and the appropriate adsorbent for separation purpose, this study will try to figure out the possible pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process to recover and concentrate high-purity CO and high-purity H2 from the gas stream. Theoptimal operating conditions can also be obtained by assessing different operating variables such as bed length, feed pressure, vacuum pressure, and the time of each step for the PSA process. The results would be helpful to design commercial process in the future.
