Description

Climate variability, price volatility and socio-economic factors are the main sources of uncertainty and concern for farmers in rice and wheat cultivation. In light of this, it is increasingly urgent to provide information to optimize crop management and estimation of crop yields before harvest for a sustainable agricultural profit and to inform government officials for ensuring food security. This project aims to use remote sensing techniques, climate services and new open data tools to unlock digital innovation in agricultural development and to assess climate risks and simulate crop yield scenarios under different environment and management conditions in Taiwan and Italy. We design the project for a two-year period (2020−2021). In the first year (2020), to develop methods for investigating farming practices and crop mapping, to improve and implement new products on AgroSat platform for Italy case study. In the second year (2021), to develop crop yield scenarios under climate impacts and to test AgroSat for rice in Taiwan. The research findings will be verified using ground reference data, crop statistics, field survey data to confirm the validity of developed methods. The project outcomes can be transferable to the local governments for improved agricultural management and planning as to farmers and farmers organization to promote the adoption of precision agriculture
