Description
Muography is an imaging technique that uses the cosmic ray muons to characterize a diverse range of complex structures. More and more its applications are emerging to image the structures that cannot be imaged using conventional techniques. We propose an interdisciplinary research project to put particle physics and geophysics together to start the research of particle geophysics in Taiwan for the first time and increase the visibility of Taiwan in this emerging field. We aim to explore a few landslide and geothermal issues concerning Taiwan. Another research domain we propose is to continue exploring new physics in CMS at LHC and work on the silicon detector R&D for future collider. We have invested the CMS experiment for 20 years and LHC will run until 2040 so the long-term participation in the rich physics programs in CMS is essential. On the other hand, we should be well prepared when the next collider comes. Among the different future collider projects the Higgs factory is the best candidate to start first. In addition, the silicon detectors have played important roles in high energy physics experiments. We had the successful experiences with the silicon sensor manufacturing in NCU. We target to develop silicon sensors and build the silicon detector prototype for the Higgs factory.
