Integrated Study of Interference Coordination Mechanism for Lte/Lte-A Networks and the Implementation of Associated Sdn/Epc Experimental Platform(1/2)

Project Details

Recently, the rapid deployment of mobile network services pushes the high demand of radio bandwidth. The spectrum efficiency dominates the achievable data rate. In addition to the modulation and coding technologies, the channel condition and interference of neighbor stations are the main criteria that affect the spectrum efficiency. The channel condition mainly depends on the physical environment which is hard to be changed. However, the interference among base stations mainly comes from poor coordination. Without proper coordination, the base station may insist on enlarging its transmission power to maximize its transmitted signal and it will introduce interference to other stations and will affect the transmission quality and squander the power. The interference among base stations can be overcome through proper coordination mechanism. Thus it is the main focus of this proposal. The proposal completely covers the interference related issues, which include inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC), HetNet enhanced ICIC (eICIC), and coordination for the component carrier (CC) selection of carrier aggregation (CA) UE. In addition, this proposal also studies the resource management of evolved packet core (EPC) network in response to the interference coordination in eUTRAN to provide a complete coordination mechanism. This is a 3-year proposal. In the first year, we will focus on the interference coordination among macro cells and develop a distributed coordination algorithm. In the second year, we will study the interference of the coexistence of multiple macro/pico cells heterogeneous network to consider the interferences in time domain and frequency domains and propose the integrated coordination algorithm. Additionally, the CC selection of CA-capable UE will also be considered in the proposed algorithm. In the third year, we will develop the network function virtualization (NFV) based soft eNB and EPC by referring to the open source from OpenAirInterface (OAI) and establish a SDN/NFV based EPC experimental platform. The coordination results obtained from the previous two years will be applied in the platform to evaluate the feasibility of the SDN based architecture for eUTRAN and EPC. In addition, we will also propose the SDN rule placement algorithm to minimize the deployment and maintenance cost.
