In this three year proposal, we shall investigate several frontier topics in biological and soft-matter systems that are related to the nonlinear and non-equilibrium nature of complex interacting systems. We anticipate the outcome of these results will not be only directly useful to the specific biological or soft-matter system we studied, but are also fundamental in the basic understanding of coupled nonlinear systems. The topics are all intimately related, not only in concepts, but also in theoretical techniques, and are also closely related to experiments. The following frontier topics in nonlinear biophysics, classified into four groups, containing a total of 11 sub-plans, will be investigated:-(A)Reconstructing the topology, strength and nature of couplings of complex and biological networks(B)Control of complex dynamics and chaos in biological and physical systems.(C)Nonequilibrium statistical physics in driven systems(D)Regulations, signaling & cell pathway dynamics in cellular and subcellular levels
