Project Details
Description
This study will prepare extruded bars of AA6061, AA6066 and AA6082 aluminum alloy. These extruded bars are subjected to cryo-forging, cold-forging and hot-forging after annealing, then subsequently doing artificially aging to obtain samples. Effects of deformation on varying microstructure, anodizing behavior and corrosion resistance of tested samples will be studied, and corrosion resistance after hot water sealing also included. In recent years, industries are interested on applying cryogenic deformation to alter microstructure of aluminum alloys to reduce grain size, corresponding to increase strength and toughness of aluminum alloys. Moreover, weight reduction in automobile industry becomes an urgent challenge for improving fuel efficiency. Therefore, the technology for developing lightweight/good toughness wrought-aluminum alloys to make automobile parts draw a great attention from industry and academics. Data-base on different degree of deformation at different temperatures of 6xxx aluminum alloys has not been well constructed. Industries commonly use hot forging process to produce forged parts. There are few research results are published to discuss effect of microstructure on the anodizing behavior and corrosion resistance of forged 6XXX alloys. The objective of this study is aiming to build up technical data including different deformation at different temperature on microstructure, mechanical properties, the anodizing film qualities and corrosion resistance of three common used 6061, 6066 and 6082 aluminum alloys.
