To assess the mechanism and have early-warning of rainfall-triggered shallow landslides, the main project aims to propose an alert depending on rainfall events in practice. This main project firstly involves theunderstanding of shallow landslide events using Big Data methodology (Sub-project 1). Rainfall-triggeredshallow landslide schemes are then simulated based on the developments of high resolution physical basedmodel (Sub-project 2) and local area rainfall forecasting (Sub-project 5). Correlated landslide non-destructiveinspection (Sub-project 3) and field monitoring with sacrificed sensing system (Sub-project 4) would supportthe characterization of landslides. The goal of main project is to reduce the impact due to rainfall-triggeredshallow landslides.Although some specific sensors and systems for debris flow monitoring are developed and revealed basedon the OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) protocol and WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) in Taiwan, applications on rainfall-triggered shallow landslides need further clarifications. A new generation open-sourcebased system, Arduino, is much famous on its cost-effective and easy-manipulated. Arduino is also capableto integrate numerous MEMS sensors as a WSN node. Furthermore, a single frequency Global PositioningSystem (GPS) chip is cost-down and may have enough resolution to record displacements of landslides. ATime Domain Reflectometry (TDR) WSN device is probably obtained for soil water content profilingmeasurement in near future. Therefore, this study (Sub-project 4) would like to examine these devices viaArduino platform and proceed necessary modifications through a physical modeling and a field testing.Sacrificed sensors and systems are expected to be deployed for rainfall-triggered shallow landslide monitoring.Corresponding results would support the decision of alert collaborated with other Sub-projects consequently.
