Development of a Hybrid Micro-Generator for Harvesting Rotation Energy

Project Details

Description

A hybrid micro-generator for harvesting rotation energy from environmental activities is proposed. The generator can induce electrical power from the change of external magnetic flux based on Faraday's law of induction and magnetoelectric effect. For fabricating conducting coils, a 3D forming system will be used to build 3D coils with multiple degrees of freedoms. For fabricating magnetoelectric device, piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials will be used. By integrating both structures with rotation mechanism and magnets, the hybrid generator is expected to supply efficient power for micro sensors, compared with typical generators. In addition, the output performances of the proposed generator under various rotation speeds and accelerations will be studied and demonstrated.
