Comparing to straight toothed bevel gears, spiral or helical bevel gears have better performances in theload capacity, the vibration and the noise of transmission mechanism. Therefore they are often applied in theangular transmission. However, a special mold is essential for manufacturing PM helical bevel gears, and thedesign technique for such the gears to increase the load capacity is also a bottleneck for spreading theapplication.Following the results of the project of the year 2014, “Flank modification for PM spur bevel gear driveswith spherical involute flanks”, the goal of the two-year project is to establish the design technique for helicalbevel gears. This proposal, the second-year of the project, will focus on designing a PM helical bevel gearboxbased on a normally hobbed spiral bevel gearbox. In the project the contact and transmission characteristicsof the designed helical bevel gears with flank modification will be analyzed by using the tooth contactanalysis model developed in the previous year of the two-year project. The PM gears will be manufacturedand inspected afterwards. Finally in the project, the contact pattern test, fatigue validation test and vibrationmeasurement are also conducted to validate the feasibility of the proposed design and analysis model.
