Design of Millimiter-Wave Dual-Band (V-Band and E-Band) Dual-Polarization Dielectric Antenna Array

Project Details

In the project, designs of dual-band (V-band , 57-66GHz, and E-band, 71-86GHz) dual- polarized dielectricantenna and antenna array will be presented. The antenna will be designed based on the IPD (IntegratedPassive Device) process with the low-cost wire-bond technique. In two years, two designs will be finished:The first year, a dual-band dual-polarized dielectric antenna:1. Use IPD substrate as dielectric resonators, and wire-bond structure as input ports.2. S11< -10 dB in 57-64 GHz and 71~86 GHz3. Antenna gain > 5 dBi at 60 GHz and > 2.5 dBi at 76 GHz4. Isolation between two ports > 20 dB in 57-64 GHz and 71-86 GHzThe features of the proposed design are as follows:1. Different from the design in [4], in which the signal is coupled to the antenna through theaperture under the resonator, we will use wire-bond structure alongside the resonator in theproject. Therefore, a dual-band feeding can be easily achieved, and better isolation can beobtained.2. Less number of resonators, that that used in [4], are required. The proposed design is lowerprofile and easy to manufacture. The second year, a 2x2 dual-band dual-polarized dielectric antenna array:1. S11< -10 dB in 57-64 GHz and 71~86 GHz2. Gain of array > 10 dBi at 60 GHz, and > 7.5 dBi at 76 GHzThe main tasks in this years is to design the coupling circuit between antennas, and the circuit as theantenna load. With these two circuit, in two band, the radiation strengths of all antennas are uniform, and the phase difference between two adjacent antenna is integer multiples of 360 degree. The mainbeam of the array will therefore point to the top of the array. All designs will also be realized and validated by measurements.
