Description

Based on my observations from interactions with students outside of class, I have noticed that many students in our department feel a profound sense of anxiety regarding learning French and their future prospects as French majors. Several students have even confessed to experiencing severe emotional distress. Upon further exploration, it was discovered that the students' anxiety was linked to events they had experienced in their family or school environment during their formative years. Past experiences can cause these students to be excessively anxious when faced with learning French, leading to a fear of studying the language. To address this issue and reduce student learning anxiety while enhancing their self-confidence and interest in French language studies, I introduced a course titled "Childhood, Schooling, and Self-Exploration" in the 2021-2022 academic year. Through exploring the childhood experiences of French writers, the course aims to help students understand the relationship between childhood and school education and how they impact an individual's life journey. Additionally, the course design aims to cultivate students' interdisciplinary and comprehensive thinking skills through various forms of exploration.Regenerate response
