Autonomous Cars Surveillance System for Optical Design

Project Details

Description

This plan proposes autonomous car surveillance system will be designed for 2 years project. First year will focus on the design of three camera lenses, which consist of long, middle, and short-range focal lens design. For camera sensor, Sony’s 20 megapixels sensor will select for all three cameras. The optical design specifications for long-range camera are: Object distance 71m - 150m, F/2.0, focal length 29.856mm, Half field-of-view(HFOV) 15 degree. The optical design spec for middle-range camera are: Object distance 30m - 70m, F/2.0, focal length 17.156mm, HFOV of 25 degree, and short-range camera: Object distance under 30m, F/2.0, focal length 5.744mm, HFOV of 70 degree. As a result of trifocal designed cameras, it will be able to record long, middle, and short range images simotaniously under normal day light (visible wavelength range of 0.4 um- 0.7um), and during night time using infrared lighting ( wavelength range of 0.75 um- 0.95um.) as auxiliary light source. Second year of this plan will focus on the design of wearable see-through retinal projector, which projects the images captured by trifocal camera, and it is divided into two portions: image system and lighting system. Image system is a set of eyepiece that is HFOV of 12 degree. The function allows human eyes to see it without an actual display screen. Then uses a Beam splitter to combine the outside image with panel to achieve see-though effect. For lighting system, RGB LEDs will be use as light source, and use an array of collimators and lens to evenly distribute the light. This project will also address the issue of change in the refractive index (dn/dT) and thermal expansion/contraction on the lens/barrel due to temperature changes. Therefore, correction will be performed when environment temperature is between -20 degree Celsius - 60 degree Celsius. This project also considers stray light of lens analysis and reduces its stray light, can improve the lens quality.
