Analyzing Trends, Sentiments, and Influencers of Vi Rtual Reality in Education through Mining Social Media

While there is little guidelines regarding the successful use of virtual reality (VR) in teaching and learning, this research aims to provide immediate and requisite insights of VR trends in education through mining social media messages. Accordingly, the first objective of this research is to identify the most updated trends of VR in education through text mining on Facebook and Twitter. The findings of text mining can expand educators’ capability of understanding new phenomena on VR and help them to provide better VR experience in classes. The second objective is to evaluate the impact of VR on learning by using sentiment analysis on social media data, which can provide substantial insight into the public’s perception on VR and entail important pedagogical implications for both individual learning and educational administration. The final objective of this research is to identify the social media influencers on the topics of VR use in education. The findings can help educators to identify the key social media influencers who they should engage with, because they could shape attitudes, thoughts, and perceptions of a hyper-connected audience. Awareness of and interaction with these individuals will help educators understand how to promote the use of VR in teaching, learning, and training. Unlike previous studies that generally use questionnaire, empirical practices, or case studies to investigate the issues regarding the use of VR in education, this research explain how to apply social media mining to extract useful and actionable patterns that would be beneficial for educators.
