112-Maintenance Support of Telemetry Tracking and acommand Chung-Li Ground Station

Project Details

Description

NSPO invited NCU to build a Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) facility for FORMOSAT-1 on NCU Chung-Li Campus in 1995. This TT&C station was named as “Chung-Li TS1 station“, which is responsible for transmitting/receiving experiment data at high/low rate between FORMOSAT-1 satellite and Ground Segment. This station was built successfully and started to operate in January 1997. Since the successful launching of FORMOSAT-1 in January 27, 1999, TT&C on-site engineers took the routine jobs such as monthly maintenance, quarterly maintenance, semi-yearly maintenance, yearly maintenance, equipments calibration, and engineering correction maintenance seriously to guarantee the best quality of satellite communication. This project is renewed yearly. This year’s (2023) proposal includes the maintenance plan and the budget of operational expenses of Chung-Li TS1 station. This project is executed under the guidance of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Plan of NSPO. According to O&M Plan, an on-site support team, which is a part of NSPO Mission Operation Team (NMOT), was organized in 1997 that provides on-site engineering and logistic support. Chung-Li TS1 station has operated for more than 15 years, and partial hardware equipments of TS1 have suffered from wear and tear as a result of long-term operation. Starting from April 2010, NSPO organized to execute the task of TS1 overhaul to regain the full performance of equipments. The overhaul task was finished by April 2011. In this year, the focus of this project will be the test of the system performance and the training of the operation and maintenance of the new antenna system. Chung-Li TS1 station is an important communication facility for mission operation, not only for FORMOSAT-3/5/7 now, but also for future FORMOSATs mission support. Equipment modifications and upgrade for FORMOSAT-2 & FORMOSAT-3 and reliability improvement for smoother operation support have been done in these years. NCU will take care of further detailed issues by arranging resources to do research, development and seek international collaboration on academic and engineering aspect. The goal of R&D and international interaction will reach out a better, faster and less expensive solution on this maintenance support project. Participants of this project will also be benefited by a series of professional training and solid experience enhancement.
