Project Details
Description
This study is developing electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) of nonconductive material such as sapphire. Bubble generation rate, bubble combination and thickness of the gas film will affect processing quality and efficiency in ECDM. Superior processing accuracy and efficiency can be obtained by better bubble combination and thinner gas film. First of all, gap phenomenon of ECDM such as bubble generation and gas film will be observed by high-speedvideo camera in the first year. The gas film formation mechanism and processing characteristics can be understood through experiments. The processing mechanism also can be clarified. In the second year, the processing parameter will be planned according to sapphire’s characteristics of ECDM drilling from the result of the first year. The experiment, parameters such as open voltage, duration time, duty factor, electrode rotation speed and feed rate, will be implemented. Micro-hole size accuracy, roundness, tool wear and material removal rate will be discussed after the experiment. The optimized processing parameters can be obtained. The difficulty of processing sapphire also can be overcome.
