Description
The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program is a worldwide hands-on, inquiry-based learning, science and education program. Students explore the ecology and environment and learn the process of scientific inquiry methods through observation, data collection, data analysis, discussion and summary. The program can promote students' environmental literacy and cultivate their interests in scientific research. GLOBE brings together scientists, teachers, students, and the public all over the world to do science together.GLOBE Program Taiwan has been funding by the National Science and Technology Council since December 2012 and signed the agreement with the United States on September 7, 2013. So far, 70 schools have joined. The missions of the project include the cultivation of scientific talents and international cooperation. We keep guiding GLOBE schools to do observations, assisting teachers to implement GLOBE in their science teaching and students’ scientific investigations. As to the international cooperation, we host international activities, encourage teachers and students to join exchange program and expeditions, and help them to cooperate with international teams. In 2023, the participants of GLOBE Taiwan have been accumulated to 4,709, the observation data has been accumulated to 2,278,623. GLOBE Taiwan team presented a conference report, hosted one international activity, attended 3 international conferences, 6 international on-line webinars, joined one students’ exchange activity, submitted 23 IVSS reports, held 3 science promotion activities, and created 770 citizen science sited and uploaded 3459 data from citizen scientists. In the future, we will keep assisting GLOBE schools to do GLOBE observations. Second, participating in international cooperation, such as hosting the GLOBE Taiwan science festival, attending students’ exchange program, submitting IVSS reports, collaborating with the US partner to promote citizen science, inviting international experts and scholars to come to Taiwan for the trainings. Third, promoting the GLOBE popular science activities, such as hosting science lectures and popular science activities. Last but not least, promoting the agreement extension of GLOBE and long-term implementing the GLOBE Program in Taiwan to enhance basic science education, cultivate STEM talents; moreover, to improve the publics’ scientific literacy comprehensively.
