Project Details

Description

GLOBE Program Taiwan has been funding by the Ministry of Science and Technology since December 2012 and signed the agreement with the United States on September 7, 2013. So far, 70 schools have joined. It is a worldwide hands-on science and education program. GLOBE brings together students, teachers and scientists through the GLOBE Schools Network in support of student learning and research. One of the objectives is to assist teachers to facilitate the GLOBE teaching resource, guide students to do daily observation, and help students to do scientific investigations. In addition, participating in international GLOBE student observation activities, hosting GLOBE teachers training, and cooperating with projects from different countries and institutes are all our missions as well.First, we encouraged teachers and students to participate in international science activities, the annual GLOBE IVSS. Taiwan students successfully submitted 23 reports and among these reports, there are 5 reports earned the highest rating of 4-star. As to the international cooperation, we helped Taiwan teachers to cooperate with the microplastics monitoring team on the developing of microplastics monitoring procedures. Taiwan team had the meeting with GLOBE Italy and Deakin University in Australia in July, 2021. Taiwan teachers were trained on August 20-21, 2021 and September 24-25, 2021. GLOBE Taiwan hosted a microplastics monitoring training on November 6, 2021 in National Central University. Moreover, Taiwan microplastics monitoring team were invited to share their experience on 2nd Virtual International Edition of RIVERS IN SPRING on March 22, 2022.Second, GLOBE Taiwan Office hosted 2021 GLOBE Asia-Pacific Regional meeting and Regional GLE on 2-4 May 2021. In total, there were 607 participants from 16 countries virtually joining and 134 participants joining the meeting in person on May 2. During May 3 to 4, there were 34 representatives virtually joining the meeting. All in all, there were 13 online students’ oral presentations from Asia Pacific countries and 30 students’ poster presentation from Taiwan. 2022 GLOBE Asia-Pacific Regional meeting was hosted by GLOBE Thailand and 2023 GLOBE Asia-Pacific Regional meeting will be hosted by GLOBE Taiwan.Third, the COVID-19 situation is still tough. Many trainings or activities have been changed to on-line and the implementation of new schools has also been affected by the epidemic. At present, online and social software are used to assist new schools, while continuing to maintain contact with the original participating schools, tutoring teachers to promote GLOBE lesson plans, assisting schools Maintenance of observation equipment, etc.In the coming year, we will keep expanding new schools and helping the existing schools. Besides, GLOBE Taiwan team will cooperate with the American Institute in Taiwan to hold trainings and lectures to improve teachers and students' scientific English reporting ability and presentation skills. In addition, we will keep working on the trainings or activities were affected by the epidemic.
