Description
In the 2020 Taiwan presidential election, President Tsai Ing-wen's national vote was 57.13%. Among the counties and cities in Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen received more than 50% of the votes in 16 counties and cities. She only lost to Han Kuo-yu who was nominated by Kuomintang in Hsinchu, Miaoli, Hualien, Taitung, Kinmen, and Lianjiang Counties. In terms of the Administrative District of Indigenous Peoples and the Key Development Areas of Hakka Culture , more than half of them were won by Kuomintang, and most of these areas were distributed in Taoyuan, Xinzhu and Miaoli. According to the analysis of the voting results in recent years, the Hakka region of Taiwan has formed a political ecology of "northern and eastern 'blue' and southern 'green'".This study proposes to use multi-level analysis to sort out various factors that may affect the political tendencies of Hakka groups, and to explore the changes and invariances of political tendencies and party identities of Hakka groups from a diachronic point of view, and then analyze various factors that may affect Hakka voters. The project has three research objectives: (1) To collate and analyze the election data of Taiwan's Central Election Commission since the 1990s, and to explore the political tendencies and changes of voters in Hakka from a diachronic point of view; (2) To use the "Basic Survey of Social Change in Taiwan"(by Academia Sinica) and the "Taiwan Election and Democratization Survey"(by National Chengchi University) to analyze various factors affecting the political attitudes and behaviors of the Hakka community; (3) Through interviews with Hakka elites, we will understand the various factors affecting the political tendencies of Hakka in different regions and their contexts.
