We have proposed a four-year project, which is aimed to develop the key technologies of mixed reality with near-eye glass display based on optical and space field technologies and to demo virtual-real interaction with the MR glass. The project has four sub-projects, which are divided into two major groups. The first group focuses on the related technologies to MR glass, and the second is for space-field technologies supporting the MR glass. The first sub-project is named holographic guiding optics and holographic display. We study volume holographic optical elements to guide light waves to support light field display for an MR glass. In addition, we also study using a spatial light modulator to generate dynamic computer-generated holograms to form depth-adjustable images. These are the essential technologies in this project. The second sub-project is named control technology for MR glass viewing circumstance. The developing technologies include the solid-state light sources and illumination for MR glass, auto-dimming, color, convergence accommodation conflict effect, which are essential factors to make MR glass more practical. The third sub-project is named 3D scanning and 3D object modeling for MR glass application. The technologies include to build twin-cameras to scan stereo images and fields for MR glass application. The depth information through scanning will connect thedisplay to perform a virtual image with appropriate depth. The four sub-project is named intelligent dynamic positioning and space field demonstration technology, which will support all calculation models and information streaming in an MRglass which is demonstrated in the real field. This technology is also essential to a successful MR glass, and demo application to a scenario for a virtual application in a real field. The project has attracted attention and participationfrom five famous Taiwanese companies to join, including HTC, Coretronic Corp., Asia Optical international ltd., Himax Technolgies Inc., Jasper Display Corp..
