Project Details
Description
Deep geological disposal is the recommended method for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The canister, buffer/backfill, and geosphere are key sub-systems that significantly control the safety of a site for storage the spent nuclear fuel. Analyses of these sub-systems require integrated knowledge and techniques on fields of coupled thermal-hydrological-mechanical-chemical (THMC) problems. The complexity of final disposal site highly depends on geological conditions of the site. These geological conditions vary from site to site.
