Project Details

Description

The integrated project “Cross-Disciplinary Studies on Spatio-Temporal Characteristics of Critical Zone in Taoyuan Tableland and Coastal Area” aims to address key issues about Taoyuan Critical Zone (CZ), such as the water supply of Shimen Reservoir, the land use and surface change in Taoyuan Tableland, climate and atmosphere in Taoyuan area, and land-sea interface at the Taoyuan coastline. We in the Sub-project II (this sub-project) propose to use the geoelectrical resistivity imaging (ERI) method, one of the geophysical exploration technology, for understanding the hydrogeological conditions near the surface, and providing information to regional surface groundwater exchange (Sub-project I) and land-air interaction (Sub-project III) simulations. We will apply real-time and intensive electrical resistivity monitoring data to investigate the CZ subject from two aspects. Cooperating with Sub-project III, the rapid ERI monitoring data can infer the variation of water content in the soils and strata near the surface. Also, cooperating with Sub-project I, the ERI monitoring task will be performed at thecoastal site in Taoyuan area so that the dynamics of the sea and fresh water interface change can be observed. The integrated study is expected to figure out the energy and mass transportation mechanism of the Taoyuan Tableland, to understand the land use and climate change, and to evaluate the impact of climate and man-made changes in the future.
