東部客家宗親/族的在地化：以宗親政治、性別與族群關係為主

Clan and lineage associations have essential social functions in Hakka culture and are one of the crucial social organizations in the Hakka community. The Hakka migrated from western Taiwan to Hualien and Taitung, where they maintained their kinship and networks of the original clan throughout their gradual localization in eastern Taiwan, forming distinctive local power and sociocultural features. The localization of the Hakka in eastern Taiwan consisted of two axes—clan and lineage associations—and three dimensions—clan politics, gender structure, and ethnic relations. The two axes are intertwined with each other and entangled with the three dimensions, producing a multiaxial and multidimensional social framework. Because these social structures affect and interact with each other, this project will investigate and analyze the Hakka social structure in the context of their localization in eastern Taiwan. The theme of this project is the localization of prominent Hakka clans and related clan organizations in eastern Taiwan. The formation process of the clans/ lineage and their interactions and relationships with clan politics, gender structure, and other ethnic groups will be explored. Field surveys are to be conducted in Hualien City, Ji’an Township, Shoufeng Township, and Fenglin Township to fulfill the following research goals: 1. Analyze the relationship and interaction patterns of prominent Hakka clans/lineage in eastern Taiwan in terms of clan politics, gender structure, and other ethnic groups and clan associations; 2. Explore the response and transformation process of the Hakka clans/lineage in eastern Taiwan and related clan organizations in the face of modern social development. This project will involve the collection and organization of relevant information on Hakka clans/lineage in the aforementioned townships in eastern Taiwan over a 2-year work period. This study will focus on how the social structures have been localized, and how they interact with other ethnic structures and cultures in the region.
