Description
In this proposal, we investigate the dynamics of a three-dimensional rigid particleimmersed in a leaky dielectric fluid under the influence of an external uniformelectric field. Differ from the classical Quincke models, a leaky dielectric modeltogether with the Stokes equations are adopted to mimic Quincke dynamics. Tothis end, we employ the boundary integral method, which is particularly suitableto formulate the electrohydrodynamic system. It has been experimentally foundthat a shape-anisotropic particle can undergo spinless, spinning, swinging, andtumbling motions at different electric field intensities. We aim to elucidate thosespontaneous symmetry-breaking Quincke motions from both theoretical andnumerical points of view.
