Project Details
Description
In order to overcome the predicament of failing to effectively improve the learning effectiveness of students under the existing teaching structure of mechanical engineering, an active learning model based on problem- and project-oriented learning parallel to the existing professional teaching structure is proposed in this project. Following this model, students can integrate the professional knowledge and skills of each grade horizontally and vertically. In this project, two major issues will be explored: (1) how to establish a department curriculum structure in this model, and (2) the correlation between student teamwork behavior and active learning, in order to improve the proposed learning framework and to develop into a formal curriculum structure. A navigation courses and four courses, which are selected from two different course series of self-learning special topic in intelligent manufacturing and innovation design, respectively, are studied in the project. With these courses as the research object, an effective evaluation measure for the effectiveness of these courses will be established from the viewpoint of developing the new curriculum type in the future. Some inadequate teaching strategies can be therefore found out and the curriculum planning can be furthermore improved. In the project, this model is also applied establish an elective system for the major study areas of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. On the other hand, the relationship between the problem-solving behavior of teamwork and active learning model is also explored in the project. On the other hand, the project also explores the relationship between teamwork problem-solving behavior and self-directed learning. The escape room game is used as a behavioral observation experiment to understand the test students' team-based interactive problem-solving process, and video and audio records are used for further in-depth research and analysis. The research results are beneficial for further development of the hands-on oriented curriculum of the teaching model proposed in this project. The results of this project can provide teachers in the field of engineering to integrate the abilities of creativity, problem-solving skills, and practical skills into hands-on curriculum development and assessment. And students can be also guided to develop self-learning ability in teamwork under the curriculum design, and develop the collective creative thinking and problem-solving skills which are necessary in the future professional carrier.
