Description
This project is for the program office to support operations of the 2022-2025master project entitled: “Integrated transdisciplinary research for sustainableTaiwan: establish resilient Taiwan against climate emergency” of the Ministry ofScience and Technology. The master project included three main themes and 6tasks. Theme 1 is to provide comprehensive knowledge for climate science andincludes Task1 for conducting climate simulations and applications and Task 2for enhancing Earth system observations and monitoring. Theme 2 is to provideclimate service and includes Task 3 for developing transdisciplinary research andservice platform for climate adaption. Theme 3 is to support the need towardsustainable society and includes Task 4 for studies of slope ecosystem andsocial impacts under climate change, Task 5 for developing adaption strategies ofunban structure under climate change, and Task 6 for constructing resilient urbanand rural areas with adaption capacities against disasters under extremehazards. The program office aims to provide logistic supports to the masterproject to integrating climate projection information and application, assessingkey risks and adaption assessments, conducting transdisciplinary and intergovernmentadaption studies, leveraging collaborations among different agenciesagainst climate impacts, and developing sustainable development pathways withactionable transdisciplinary knowledge. It is critical to have a program office tosupport this master project. Main tasks of the program office include: (1)administrative operations of the project office; (2) to stimulate collaborationsamong different tasks; (3) to leverage synergies among different governmentagencies; (4) to synthesize outcomes of different tasks; (5) to hold annualmeetings. Through operations of the program office, it is expected to integrateknowledge of earth sciences, humanities and social sciences, risk assessmentsand governances for developing adaption technologies with transdisciplinary andcross sectors views. Facing challenges of climate emergency, we needsustainable development pathways with actionable transdisciplinary and sciencebasedknowledge to build our resilient Taiwan against climate emergency.
